Tech market feels like a data entry job (news.ycombinator.com)
I have a good resume, worked well for a few years before AI, and know it has got a lot harder to land a development gig. I've worked with modern stuff like AI-generated briefs for our meetings, for our bug logs, even for our Q.A. team email replies. Hell, there was an Agent dedicated to verifying how well our code was written at my last job, so I feel like I've kept up with the innovations.
But I have no idea how to land a job in development anymore. Literally, I've asked Gemini "what can I improve?" - I've asked my friends and they feel a similar cenario, except those who were loyal to a company until now.
I've worked over 5 years remotely but I started applying to local jobs because I've given up on competing with the whole world (Although I did work for Silicon Valley companies before) since I don't feel confident anymore.
I ask you what are your thoughts on this. I could build a computer from stick and stones but I am completely useçes
Which means the job market will currently benefit those with this skill. Traditionally what EMs/PMs,leaders would do.
I'm not sure where this will land, but the above rings true - Juniors are most hurt right now because they've never been in the business of figuring out future needs. Those few that can, are thriving in this world.
I wonder if others see the workplace around them aligning or contrary to this.
I don’t have problems getting interviews (so I guess my cv/experience is relevant to the job… at least I do tailor my cv for each application). I do have problems in some stages of the tech interview (but that’s another story)
